lidel Cream, containing Pimecrolimus 1%, is a topical, non-steroidal immunomodulatory medication used primarily in the management of mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema). Manufactured by Novartis and marketed in India under the brand Elidel, this cream is a widely prescribed alternative to topical corticosteroids for sensitive skin areas such as the face, neck, and skin folds, particularly when long-term treatment is needed.
The active ingredient, pimecrolimus, is a member of the calcineurin inhibitor class. It works by selectively inhibiting the activation of T-cells and the release of inflammatory cytokines that play a major role in the pathogenesis of eczema and other inflammatory skin disorders. Unlike corticosteroids, Elidel does not cause skin thinning (atrophy), making it safer for extended use and for delicate skin areas, especially in children over two years and adults.
